Do acids increase the pH of aqueous solutions?
Acids contribute H+ ions, increasing the H+ ion concentration. However, according to the pH scale, a solution with a high H+ ion concentration has a low pH. One with a higher OH- ion concentration has a higher pH.
Therefore, acids decrease the pH.
