Is there a formula for calculating thickness of ice to what weight it can support?
I know a place where there's a lake, with cabins around it, and the cabins have propane for heating and cooking. No roads though. They drive the propane across the lake in a big truck in the dead of winter.
Somebody has a formula.
Their formula might not work for you though. I'm no materials scientist, but I bet there's other factors that affect the strength of the ice besides just its thickness. How porous is it, for example? Ice often has air trapped within it. How much air? It probably matters. The temperature might matter. The rate/temperature at which it froze might matter (could affect the crystalline structure).
