Will using a tube amp head (6505+) with my Kustom Quad Jr Stack Cabinet work?

I understand that there are no tube cabinets only tube amp heads, but because the Quad Jr stack is from a solid state combo, will it work if I ran a Peavey 6505+ through it?

If so, can I expect good metal distortion from this combo?

A "cabinet" is just a wood box with speakers in it. What matters is the speakers and how they're wired together. Check on the back of the cabinet -- there should be a sticker/plate or something listing the OHM value Ω. It's typical to have 4Ω or 8Ω. This is a technical term that tells you how much resistance to electrical current the speakers have.

Your tube head should have the Ohms listed for its outputs too. Some have multiple speaker outs with 4Ω, 8Ω, or 16Ω. For your gear to work properly, you need to match up the head and cabinet. Both need to have the same Ohm value.

Also double-check the wattage rating of your speakers, so you don't just smoke 'em as soon as you crank up.

As for "metal" distortion, that's a hard thing to put your finger on. Whatever distortion pedal you have is a big part of this, plus the guitar pickups and EQ settings -- speakers are at the END of the chain. Every dude has his own settings, and just because you don't sound like _____________ doesn't mean you suck. You do what you like, and *%#% the haters!
