What are the downsides of taking diet pills with ephedra in it for a recoverying addict?

More info: The addict has problems with Ritalin, Cocaine, some pot about every 5 months. The person has been diagnosed with a sleep disorder, (why the Ritalin) and now wants to kick the RItalin and continue the Ephedra.
Won't it lead to abuse of the Ephedra and lead to other use?

I am also a recovering addict and yes taking Ephedra can lead to abuse. Also, I believe Ephedra has been banned from the market due to the health risks involved. It can lead to stroke and arrythmias. Bad stuff, dont risk it.
