Peach Cobbler
Aug/100
How do you make the crust on peach cobbler firm?
I baked my first peach cobbler today. For the crust i used 1 cup self rising flour, 1 cup milk, 1 cup sugar, 1 tspoon vanilla, and a few shakes of cinnamon. There is a layer of crust over the cobbler, but it is nowhere near firm or flakey. How do I get it this way?
1- I think you put too much milk in there
2- The self rising flour does not turn out as good, so I would try regular flour and add baking powder.
3- You have to add butter
Also, did you add the cinnamon and vanilla to the crust mix? I add mine to the top of the peaches in my filling, maybe it won't matter though.
This is usually how I make my crust:
1 cup flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
4 tablespoons butter (make sure it's not salted)
2/3 cups of milk
Mix up all the dry ingredients, then add the butter and mix it all up with your fingers (I don't melt it). Then add the milk til you get it soft. The oven should be preheated to 400 F.
Good luck!
