Why the market capitalization weight to use as equity in the WACC?
It seems that in calculating the weighting actions for funding these companies a choice (WACC) the weighting of shares should the share capital and share premium. It is the real capital that the company receives to fund operations. For example, Google may be $ 450, but the company has received only 125 $ During the IPO. Why use market capitalization? Thanks Peaches. So I can say it like that? Ford has a market cap of 15B and 150B of debt (165B total). If Ford were to say tomorrow that we must 165B, you would look at the rate it pays on the debt on the 150B debt and the cost of the theoretical value market (15B) and a little weight these costs appropriately for the cost of capital.
It is because investment decisions are made from the perspective of shareholders. Therefore, they are concerned about the real price of equity rather than a value history. Remember the question is whether the investment is a good year for the company vis0avis its shareholders.
