Caps Ramp

Can you help me build a car?
For my physics class i have to build a car-like thing made out of items from around our house. we needed to make our own wheels and axels and the car is going to have to be able to go straight down a ramp, and then continue off the ramp for 3 meters (9 feet)
as of right now, i have an action figure hot glued to a combination on nails that have two bottle caps glued together as wheels with holes in them so they spin. and they are connected by straws. i tested it out, and it rolls, but in it's current state it's not going to be able to continue off the ramp 3 meters...any suggestions on how to make it go farther/faster?
i had to do this same project. the way i did it was i used votive candles and took the wicks out. that way they have enough weight and enough friction to keep the wheels spinning. i put wooden skewers in between the candles as the axel. and then i added a hot glue ball to keep them in place. than for the base... i used something even based so it wouldn't get too heavy. good luck!
